The
Virginia State Police are encouraging safe driving during the upcoming
Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Last
year, 14 people died in traffic accidents on Virginia’s highways during the
Thanksgiving holiday, the highest number of fatal crashes since 2009.
The
Virginia State Police say they will increase patrols Wednesday, November 27
through Sunday, December 1, in order to prevent traffic deaths.
During
last year’s Thanksgiving holiday, troopers cited 844 seat belt violations.
The
Virginia State Police recommend that drivers get plenty of sleep before a trip,
check your vehicle’s tire pressure and fluid levels, place an emergency
roadside kit in your vehicle and avoid distractions.
