Runaway Vehicle on I-81

Two college students in Augusta County had some nervous moments on Tuesday on Interstate 81 when the brakes on their vehicle quit working.
The Virginia State Police say 19-year-old Amy Guevara and 19-year-old Sean Weis were on their way to classes at Blue Ridge Community College, near mile marker 235, when Guevara noticed her vehicle wasn’t braking. The car accelerated up to 110 mph.
After driving nearly 18 miles, Guevara and Weis leaped from the vehicle into the median while a state police officer used his vehicle to pin Guevara’s car up against a guardrail.
Weis and Guevara suffered minor injuries.
The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the incident.
