Plans are underway for this year’s Rockbridge Area Christmas
Basket Program.
The program, in its 64th year, provides food and toys to
needy families at Christmas. In 2011, the program packed and delivered baskets containing
over 63,000 pounds of food to more than 1000 families, including 979 children.
This year, the baskets will be packed Saturday, Dec. 15, starting
at 8:00 am, at the Howard P. Anderson Arena at the Virginia Horse Center. The
packing is usually finished by noon and the baskets will then be delivered.
Applications for the Rockbridge Christmas Basket program are
now being accepted by Rockbridge Area Relief Association Food Pantry, Department
of Social Services, and Rockbridge Area Free Clinic. The deadline for all
applications is Thursday, Nov. 29.
The Annual organizational meeting for the Rockbridge Area
Christmas Basket Program will be held Monday, Nov. 26, 7:00 p.m., at the Lexington
Presbyterian Church. Organizers of the
Christmas Basket program will review the setup and logistics for the program
and the delivery of the baskets.
