The Theater at Lime Kiln appears to
be ready to close its doors.
Executive Director Tony Russell told
the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors on Monday that he recommended to the theater’s Board that the Theater
at Lime Kiln be closed as of this coming Sunday, September 30.
Russell
said he anticipates that the theater should be able to conclude its current
season debt free.
Russell
said Lime Kiln plans to return community donations made to the Help Stoke the
Kiln fund and will advise USDA Rural Development that the loan of $93,000 which
Lime Kiln had qualified for will not be required. He says Lime Kiln will also
advise Lowe’s Home Improvement Center that the funds they had ear marked for
renovations to the Kiln space will not be required.
Lime Kiln
had sought funding from both Rockbridge County and Lexington, in order to
maintain operations. Russell called it’s a travesty of asset utilization that
the County and City could not find a way to help fund Lime Kiln.
