New Poll

A new poll finds that President Barack Obama enjoys a healthy advantage over all Republican presidential candidates in Virginia.

The poll, from Quinnipiac University, shows that President Obama leads former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 50 percent to 42 percent.

The president holds a slightly larger edge over former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, 49 percent to 40 percent. He leads former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul by double digits.

Adding Gov. Bob McDonnell to the GOP ticket does little to help Romney in Virginia. In a hypothetical Obama-Biden/Romney-McDonnell match-up, Democrats win 50 percent to 43 percent.

The poll also found that Virginia’s U.S. Senate race remains deadlocked between front-runners and former governors, Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen. Kaine has 47 percent to Allen’s 44 percent.
