Water Problems
Lexington City Council on Thursday discussed the recent installation of new water meters and backflow prevention devices for residential customers. Some citizens have complained about water problems after the backflow devices were installed.
City Councilman Bob Lera says council has decided to continue with the installation of new water meters for those customers who haven’t had the work done yet but the backflow prevention devices, or check valves, won’t be installed for another 8 months, in order to give citizens more time to install pressure reducing valves or thermal expansion tanks.
Lera says for those who have already had the work done, council is considering several different options, including the possibility of removing the check valve and setting up an interest free loan for those who want to install a pressure reducing valve or a thermal expansion tank.
At least 22 households have reported problems with their pipes after the new water meters and backflow valves were installed.
