Winter Preparedness

The National Weather Service and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management have designated December 1 - 7 as Winter Preparedness Week.

The National Weather Service was predicting normal temperatures and precipitation amounts for the winter.

Officials with the National Weather Service recommend that Virginians prepare for severe winter weather by putting together an emergency supply kit, with a three day supply of food and water, a battery-powered radio with extra batteries, a first aid kit, medications, blankets and warm clothing.

They advise citizens to put together an emergency response plan for family members so everyone knows where to go if they can’t get home.

They also advise Virginians to stay informed by listening to local media and getting road information from VDOT’s website, 511virginia.org.
