The Bedford County School Board has received a prediction that the school
division’s student population could drop below 10,000 in the fall of 2014.
The anticipated decrease would mean there would be 100 fewer students compared
to the current population.
School Board Chairman Gary Hostutler says the board needs to take the
declining population into account when planning for the size of a proposed new
school in the Liberty attendance zone.
The board has agreed to purchase 49 acres next to Liberty High School for
the new school but has yet to decide what type of school to build.
