Governor Bob McDonnell is promising decisive action
when it comes to improving mental health resources after last week’s tragic
incident in Bath County, in which State Senator Creigh Deeds was stabbed by his
son Gus, who then shot and killed himself.
Investigators believe Gus Deeds stabbed his father and killed himself one
day after he was evaluated by mental health officials and released from
custody.Governor Bob McDonnell says the state is still investigating the incident but he says there are concerns about the evaluation process and the efforts by mental health officials to find a psychiatric bed for Gus Deeds.
Governor McDonnell says he plans to propose investments in mental health during the 2014 General Assembly session.
