The Bedford County School Board voted 4-3 on Thursday to support a lawsuit against
Virginia’s new legislation allowing the state to take over failing schools. The
lawsuit was filed by the Virginia School Boards Association and the Norfolk
City School Board
Meanwhile, the Bedford County School Board also voted 6-1 in favor of buying
49 acres of land behind Liberty High School as the site for a new middle school.
The property is on Virginia 122, just north of the town of Bedford. The board will
pay the landowner nearly $300,000 for the 49 acres.
