The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority police officer who was
wounded last week while pursuing the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, Richard
Donohue Jr., is in critical but stable condition at a Boston hospital.
The 33-year-old VMI graduate was shot in the thigh. The bullet severed his
femoral vein and artery and Donohue began to bleed out. He lost his entire
blood supply but doctors were able to give Donohue transfusions. During CPR,
Donohue’s heart stopped and it took more than 45 minutes to restore his pulse.
Doctors are cautiously optimistic that Donohue will make a full recovery.
