I-81 Work

Weather permitting, construction crews will close northbound lanes on I-81 in Rockbridge County from Timber Ridge to Fairfield next month as part of the truck climbing lane project.
Crews will perform bridge deck work on the bridge over Sterrett Road, Route 710, starting Thursday, February 7 at 8 a.m.
Detours will be in place.
On Thursday, Feb. 7, traffic will exit I-81 at exit 195 at Timber Ridge and travel north on U.S. 11 to Va. 710 and then to the I-81 ramps at exit 200 at Fairfield. Motorists will also have the option of bypassing Va. 710 by continuing north on U.S. 11 and re-entering I-81 at exit 213 at Greenville.
Then on Friday, Feb. 8, at 8 a.m. until midnight, traffic will use the I-81 northbound lanes to exit 200. At exit 200, trucks will detour around the I-81 bridge over Va. 710 by using the exit ramps at this interchange, crossing Va. 710 and then re-entering I-81 using the on-ramps at this interchange. Passenger cars and other smaller vehicles will be allowed to stay in the right lane on the I-81 mainline and use the bridge, shifting to the left lane at the end of the bridge.
Finally, on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 12 a.m. until Feb. 10 at 10 a.m., all I-81 northbound traffic will again be detoured at Timber Ridge, re-entering at either Fairfield or Greenville.
