Propane Tanks Explode Monday in Amherst County

The Ambriar Shopping Center in Amherst County was the scene Monday night for several explosions as two 1,000 gallon above-ground propane tanks located between two shopping center buildings caught fire.
The incident resulted in traffic backups on U.S. 29 and knocked out power temporarily at Sweet Briar College.
At least six businesses were damaged, including the UVA Dialysis Center, which suffered heavy damage. No word yet on damage figures.
Authorities say the cause of the explosions is under investigation.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
