Despite a few accidents, and traffic coming to a standstill at
times Sunday afternoon, the Virginia State Police say traffic seemed to move
well Sunday night on Interstate 81 in Southwest Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.
The Virginia State Police say while Sunday was certainly a
high-volume traffic day, there were no major injuries from accidents on I-81.
However, an accident Sunday afternoon in Roanoke
County resulted in a 25-mile backup, leading to extremely heavy congestion near
the intersection of I-81 and 581.
