Accident claims another SRHS student

The Virginia State police have identified the Staunton River High School student who was killed in a car accident on Sunday in Bedford County.
The Virginia State Police say 17-year-old Ashley Barton was heading east on Virginia 24 near Meadors Spur Road when she tried to avoid hitting a deer. Barton’s vehicle ran off the road, went down an embankment and hit a tree. Barton, who was wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Barton is the third student from Staunton River High School to die in an accident in the past week or so. Two other students, 17-year-old Jacob Baird and 16-year-old Katie Thurston died after an accident last Wednesday on Virginia 24.
