Accidents Sunday in Rockbridge, Franklin County



A wreck on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County on Sunday resulted in several people being injured.
The northbound accident occurred near mile marker 196.
The wreck led to lengthy traffic backups and sent three people to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
Meanwhile, a fatal accident Sunday in Franklin County claimed the life of a Liberty High school student, 15-year-old Hannah Long.
Long was a passenger in a vehicle on Dillons Mill Road. The driver of the car ran off the road and hit a tree. Long, who was not wearing her seat belt, was declared dead at the scene. The driver and several other passengers were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The Virginia State Police say they continue to investigate the accident.
Another Liberty High School student, Lewis Dickenson, was killed in an accident on U.S. 460 in Bedford County on October 7. Liberty High School officials say the school will provide counseling for students and staff.
