Altavista police officials say the fatal shooting Wednesday of
83-year-old Delma Towler of Altavista by police was justified.
Altavista Police Chief Clay Hamilton says law enforcement
officials went to Towler’s residence Wednesday night after dispatchers received
a 9-1-1 call.
The Virginia State Police, who are investigating the
shooting, say a gun was fired from the home. Towler then left the house with a
gun in hand, apparently heading to her sister’s home. Police ordered her to put
down her weapon. The Virginia State Police say Towler then pointed the gun at
officers. One of those officers then fatally shot Towler.

Police is investigating the shooting.
