Interstate 81 is closed northbound between exit 240 and exit
245 in Rockingham
County. Exit 240 is at
the Mount Crawford
and Bridgewater
area at Route 257. Exit 245 is at Port Republic Road in Harrisonburg. Motorists are being detoured
off at exit 240 to Route 257 and then to Route 11 and then to Port Republic
Road to re-enter I-81 northbound at exit 245, next to James Madison University.
This closure is to allow crews to clean up multiple accidents in this area.
Intense snow squalls have passed through the northern Shenandoah Valley area.

conditions deteriorated rapidly Tuesday, causing numerous accidents in the Rockingham County
area as well as in Shenandoah
County. Virginia
Department of Transportation crews are out treating roads. Motorists are
advised to travel at reduced speeds during these weather events and to leave
plenty of space for braking and stopping.
