The Virginia State Police have
identified the man shot by a state trooper Tuesday morning in Rockbridge County
as 39-year-old Wayne Lyall of Clintwood in Dickenson County.
According to investigators, Lyall attempted to turn a handgun on Trooper
R.W. Miller while the trooper was conducting an investigation of a stolen
vehicle in the Natural
Bridge area.Miller shot and killed Lyall after Lyall had aimed the handgun at the trooper.
Miller is now on administrative leave and a state police
shooting team continues to investigate the incident.
