Fatal Shooting

A Virginia State Police trooper fatally wounded a suspect Tuesday morning in the Glasgow area of Rockbridge County while investigating a stolen vehicle.
The trooper shot a white male while investigating a stolen vehicle from the Vinton area.
The shooting occurred at the Glasgow Lifesaving and First Aid Building near the Natural Bridge Welcome Center.
Investigators say when the trooper tried to get the suspect out of the vehicle, the man reached around his seat under some clothing. They say the suspect had a gun and motioned toward the trooper. That’s when the trooper shot the suspect.
The name of the person killed and the state trooper have not been released. The trooper, a seven-year veteran, is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
