The altercation on Big Hill Road left Jason Barger severely injured after he was allegedly beaten by 42-year-old Christopher Zollman and then was struck by a vehicle driven by a female, reportedly Leslie Ruley of Buena Vista, who fled the scene.
At last report, Barger was being treated the University of Virginia Medical Center.
The Rockbridge County Sheriff's Department charged Zollman with aggravated malicious wounding. The Virginia State Police say more charges may be filed.
