Central Elementary Evacuated Wednesday

Central Elementary School was evacuated Wednesday morning after cafeteria workers detected the smell of gas in the building.

Central students were transported by bus to the Maury River Middle School.

Rockbridge County school officials say Central was checked out by firefighters and Columbia Gas.

School officials say a faulty regulator unit caused the smell of gas.

Central has been deemed to be safe and students return to Central Wednesday afternoon after having spent the morning in Maury River’s gym and cafeteria.
