State Police patrols

The Virginia State Police will have extra troopers on the highways for the 4th of July weekend.
The increased presence, part of the agency's annual Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort, will result in 75 percent of the state police uniformed work force on patrol Friday through Monday.
During last year's holiday period, Operation CARE resulted in 152 drunken driving arrests, 10,880 speeding tickets and 2,755 reckless driving citations. State police investigated 744 traffic crashes, and there were six fatalities.
