Winter Weather Travel Update

Travelers on Interstates 81 in Southwest Virginia and 77 north and south of Wytheville will enter Winter Storm Warning areas. On Interstate 77 from mile marker 24.1 to mile marker 0 high winds are adding to potential delays.

On Interstate 64 in Alleghany County motorists will be under a Wind Advisory and can expect spotty snowfall. Upon entering West Virginia a Winter Storm Warning is in effect and snowfall is expected across most of the state.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect for Bath County where light snowfall is also anticipated.

Western Highland County is under a Winter Storm Warning and Wind Chill Advisory. Significant amounts of accumulation are projected which may impact travel on Route 220 north of Monterey.

Winter Weather Advisory

The NWS Blacksburg office has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Alleghany, Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Floyd and Roanoke Counties from 10:00 pm until 11:00 am Saturday.

The storm will initially produce rain and sleet before transitioning to snow and sleet primarily at elevations above 2500 feet. Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches is possible along with wind gusts up to 30 mph.

Travel will be dangerous.
