Amherst County Fatality

One person was killed in Amherst County Thursday night after being struck by a Norfolk Southern train while she and friends walked across a train trestle spanning the James River.
Investigators say the train struck and killed a woman. Another woman was injured after jumping off the trestle.
Authorities say they’re not sure why the group was walking across the trestle. It’s illegal to walk on a train trestle.
