Virginia’s Hurricane Preparedness
Sales Tax Holiday will be in effect Saturday, May 25 through the following
Friday, May 31.
Citizens who shop during the Hurricane
Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday won’t have to pay sales tax on certain items that
protect their home of their business.
Items with a price tag of $60 or less
that qualify for the tax exemption include ice packs, batteries, flashlights, first
aid kits, cell phone chargers, NOAA Weather Radios, portable self-powered
radios, bottled water, tarps and plastic sheeting, duct tape, carbon monoxide
and smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and water storage containers.
Big ticket items that are exempt
from the sales tax during the tax holiday include portable generators and generator
power cords.
