Federal Budget Cuts
The federal sequester is hitting home on the Blue Ridge parkway.
The federal government's automatic spending cuts will result in the James River Visitor Center in Amherst County remaining closed for the time being, along with the Roanoke Mountain Campground and the Rocky Knob Visitor Center in Floyd County.
Several sites on the Blue Ridge parkway will open in May, including the Mabry Mill Restaurant on May 1 and the Blue Ridge Music Center on May 4.
The Peaks of Otter Campground, Nature Center and Visitor Center in Bedford County opens on May 24.
The Peaks of Otter Restaurant and Lodge should re-open by June as a contract is finalized with a new management firm.
