Work will begin Tuesday on the Nelson Street
bridge project in Lexington.
The contractor, Fairfield-Echols of Fishersville,
hopes to complete the project by December.
Michael Kennedy, Lexington’s Director of Public
Works, says Nelson St will be closed to through traffic and Washington Street
will be used for detours. Varner Lane will be closed from Short Street to a
point just beyond the northern side of the existing bridge.
Kennedy says the city asks motorists and pedestrians
to be patient during the bridge project. He says the city encourages everyone
to continue to come downtown for shopping, dining, and enjoyment.
