Storm Impacts Traffic and Power
Thursday’s winter storm left roughly 3 to 5 inches of snow in some portions of western Virginia while other areas received 5 to 8 inches.
The winter weather resulted in numerous power outages reported by Dominion Virginia Power and Appalachian Power. The New River Valley was hard hit by outages. Crews will be restoring power throughout the region today.
The storm also slowed traffic on Thursday and led to several accidents yesterday afternoon and early evening. Part of U.S. 220 south in Botetourt County, near mile marker 150 on I-81, had to be shut down for a time on Thursday.
VDOT officials say roads will remain slick this morning and many roads are still snow covered. They say motorists need to drive with caution. For the latest information on road conditions, you can call 511 or visit VDOT’s website, www.511virginia.org
