Work is ready to begin on the Nelson
Street Bridge project in Lexington.
Starting next week, detours will be
in place as crews bring down the current bridge and a new bridge is built.
Eastbound and westbound traffic will
be detoured from Nelson Street onto Washington Street.
The city’s director of Public Works,
Michael Kennedy, says he’s hoping motorists can take steps to alter their
driving habits while the new bridge is under construction. He says city
officials will be monitoring and managing traffic patterns.
The company handling the bridge
project, Fairfield- Echols of Fishersville, was hoping to complete work by
December.
The new bridge will have two
1.5-foot wide travel lanes with 5.5-foot wide sidewalks on both sides with curb
and gutter.
