The Virginia State Police have all
available troopers on patrol during peak travel times for the Thanksgiving
Holiday weekend. The increase in patrols continues through midnight Sunday.
The extra enforcement efforts are
part of Operation C.A.R.E.
In 2011, 11 people died statewide in
traffic wrecks during the Thanksgiving weekend; up from 10 traffic deaths
during the 2010 holiday weekend.
Last year, drivers faced numerous
violations, including 9,029 speeding tickets, 3,082 summonses for reckless
driving, 741 seatbelt violations and 263 child safety seat violations. More
than 130 suspected drunk drivers were arrested.
