VDOT Recommends Caution

Several accidents were reported Monday in the Roanoke Valley and the New River Valley after an arctic chill blew into the region and covered some roads with snow and black ice. VDOT says segments of Interstate 81 and U.S. 460 were covered in patches of ice or snow, as were parts of U.S. 221 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Transportation officials say watch out Tuesday morning for patchy slick spots on roads, with temperatures expected to remain below freezing through the morning hours.
Additional light accumulation is possible Tuesday morning, especially in the New River Valley and western mountains of Virginia and West Virginia.
