A new AAA study has found that one in four motorists report being so tired
they had a hard time keeping their eyes open while driving in the past month.
The AAA study found that those between ages 19-24 were the most likely to report
driving while drowsy.
Last year, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles reported more than
3,100 crashes on state roads were a result of drowsy driving. Twenty-one were
fatal.
AAA officials say motorists need to stop and find a safe place to pull over
if they experience symptoms of drowsy driving, including difficulty keeping
eyes open, drifting out of a driving lane, accidentally tailgating others and missing
traffic signs.
