Watch Out For Deer!
Motorists need to drive with caution this time of the year and watch out for deer.
There were more than 5,400 wrecks last year in Virginia that involved deer. Nearly a quarter of those accidents occurred in November.
AAA officials say drivers who see a deer on the road should use their horns rather than flashing lights.
If a crash is unavoidable, drivers should slow down but release the brake before impact. This can cause the front of the car to rise, increasing the chances the animal will go under the vehicle rather than through the windshield. Swerving to avoid a wreck is unsafe, as drivers can lose control and crash into other vehicles or objects along the roadway.
