Fracking Addressed in Management Plan

The U.S. Forest Service says the newly revised management plan for the George Washington National Forest may not be finished until next year.
The management plan for the 1.1-million-acre forest, which is revised every 15 years, addresses the issue of fracking, horizontal drilling for natural gas that uses chemicals and water to free gas from shale and rock.

The initial draft of the plan banned fracking but industry groups objected.

Opponents of fracking say it’s incompatible with the largest national forest on the East Coast.
